Do you worry about what the future holds for your grandchildren?

We do.

We are grandparents who are concerned about what kind of America our grandchildren will live in when they are older. Find out about us at www.GrannyVoter.org.

We wonder:

  • What opportunities will our grandchildren have for decent jobs, education, and health care?
  • Will our grandchildren inhabit a planet marred by polluted air and water and disrupted by severe climate change?
  • How will our grandchildren pay for the monumental public debt that compounds daily?
  • Will our grandchildren have the same rights we do and be able to speak their minds openly and freely?
  • Will our grandchildren live in a world of peace or will they inherit a world torn by resentment, rage and violence? We have lived long and know that the answers to these questions will depend on today's choices and policies.

As older voters we have political power. It's time to exercise that political power on behalf of our nation's grandchildren. That is why we are asking you today to join us and become a GrannyVoter—a grandparent who will vote for the future of the children of today who cannot vote for themselves.

We want to change the nature of political debate in this country. We are appalled by the way candidates of both major parties focus on the short term, exploit individual self-interest and pander to pressure groups. We are tired of the perception that older voters like ourselves only care about our needs—our pensions, our Medicare, our prescription drugs. Yes, those issues are important. But nothing is as important as the world we are leaving our grandchildren. Our legacy will be the America we leave them. Our legacy will be our vote.

We want each Presidential candidate to tell us what he has in mind for our children's children. We want to know how the world will be better if he is in the White House for the next four years instead of his opponent. What specific plans does he have to make this a safer, saner place, not only in the immediate future, but over the next twenty years as well? We will base our votes in November on how well those plans and policies are articulated.

Take action now: Pass this message on to your friends, help them register to vote, initiate discussions of the issues, and press candidates on the long term implications of their policies.

On September 12, National Grandparents Day, we are asking grandparents around America to gather their friends and have a party or a picnic and figure out ways to make the power of the GrannyVote come alive. But you don't have to wait until then to make your voice heard on your grandchildren's behalf. Log onto www.GrannyVoter.org and make sure to sign up for further information. Learn more about who we are and what you can do. Until this election, children under 18 couldn't vote. With GrannyVoters, that will change. As each of us goes into the polls this year , our hands are going to be pulling the lever for them. And some of us will have a grandchild beside us in the booth, pulling the lever with us, and learning to care as we do.

Vote for your grandchildren—their future depends on it.
